Our socialised understanding of fluidity is that it acts as a synonym for flexibility, of effortless adaptation to circumstance by taking an easeful, but ultimately reactionary stance to external stimuli. You encounter an obstacle and shift some aspect of your being – interior relationship to it, or external actions as a result of – to navigate it without resistance. Mirroring the image of a flowing river, everything moves as it must to keep the forward momentum ticking along nicely.
